Structural Steel Infrastructure (incl. marine) - WC Burrup Supply Jetty

The Water Corporation’s Burrup Supply Jetty required full upgrade and repair to structural steelwork. The works included removal and replacement of structural sections, sandblasting and repair and painting to marine specifications. The works were undertaken both above and below the waterline.

A suspended scaffold was erected to facilitate the works above the waterline, whilst diving specialists were engaged to complete whaler and column replacements underwater. The scaffold was fully encapsulated to protect the marine environment during blasting and painting works. An emergency rescue craft was on standby for the duration of the works, with response effectiveness tested regularly throughout the project.

Maintenance - Pipeline Repairs

Parker Street, South Hedland

VDE provided services to establish a 300DN MSCL bypass for the purpose of allowing isolation valves to be installed on the Parker St 600DN Main. To establish the bypass four flanges were fitted to the existing 508DN pipe so that valves and line stop plugs could be fitted. Hot tapping was conducted to facilitate the bypass completion.

Pipe supports were welded to the underside of the existing main line and a concrete footing poured around the steel supports. The footing was 1200mm below the trench/pipe floor and a minimum of 2500 x 1000mm at the base.

Shoring boxes were used to support the excavations. Beams with a cover plate (with hole for the hot tapping rig) was welded to the top of the trench boxes and then scaffolding erected to allow access to the top of the hot tapping rig.

This project was within a public road, technically complex and high risk, however the works were completed without incident or injury and within the defined timeframe.

Demolition

Boyanup Water Tanks

Boyanup Water Tanks roof demolition involved the removal of all external ancillary items, roof sheeting and structural steel framework including columns. VDE class all tank roofs requiring demolition as fragile, and zero access on the topside of the roof is allowed. Initial entry is gained using a man-cage to facilitate inspection of the structure by the demolition supervisor. Scaffold tower entry is then established to facilitate the propping of all existing columns. The roof sheeting is then removed using EWP’s and stacked for recycling. The structural framework is then removed following the sequence the Demolition Supervisor and work crew have agreed upon. VDE typically achieve demolition recycling rates of nearly 100%.

The VDE demolition crew are very experienced and have an impeccable safety record – with no incidents or injury having occurred on any demolition project.

Construction

HDPE Halls Creek - Pipelines

Pipeline construction is second nature to VDE, with years of experience in all types of pipeline installations – MSCL, HDPE and PVC. VDE have their own excavators to dig the trenches, cranes for the placement of pipes, welding equipment, skid steers loaders, and compactors for backfilling and site remediation works.

VDE have completed numerous pipeline projects for the Water Corporation, and RTIO. VDE pride themselves on their excavation management and consider it a critical risk on all pipelaying projects. Whether the excavation is 1 metre or 10 metres deep you can be assured safety is our first priority.
